Who can join & how are members selected?
The Biology Scholars Program will have applications available on the first week of instruction. Please come pick one up from our office at 2075 Valley Life Science Building (VLSB) from Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 until Friday, Jan. 25, 2008. Our office will be open between the hours of 9-12pm, 1-5pm. Applications are due by Monday, Jan. 28th by 12pm. Filled out applications should be returned to 2075 VLSB as well.
BSP is a diverse community of Berkeley students (in terms of their ethnic, academic, cultural and economic backgrounds) committed to the success of one another. Because BSP derives its strength from its diversity, all UC Berkeley undergraduates are eligible to apply to the program.
Selection of members involves a written application and interview. Students are selected using the following criteria:
- All applicants must have an interest in a biology-related career and a demonstrated commitment to collaborative learning and providing service to underserved communities.
- There is no GPA or SAT score requirement.
- First priority is given to low income and first generation college students.
- Next priority is given to applicants who have participated in academic development programs ( including Summer Bridge, EAOP, Upward Bound, and MESA), community college transfers, or students referred to the program by current BSP members, BSP alumni, or Berkeley faculty/staff members.
- If space is still available, all others interested in the program are considered.
