A new carnivorous mammal from the middle Eocene of southern California

Pencil sketch of teeth

These are the lower teeth of a new genus of carnivorous mammal from the middle Eocene (approximately 40 million years ago). This specimen was collected in northwestern San Diego County by researchers from the University of California Museum of Paleontology in 1968. This new taxon will be described as a part of a project investigating the ecological context of the evolution of carnivorous mammals preserved in the fossil record.
