Electron micrograph of a Legionella pneumophila bacterium

Legionella pneumophila is the cause of a severe pneumonia called Legionnaires' Disease. A Legionella bacterium can swim in the environment by using its flagellum, the whip-like structure extending from one of the ends of the bacterium. The bacterium in this image is approximately 2 microns in length.
